Burning The Midnight Oil

by Jon on Sep.27, 2006, under General, House

With no holiday left to take, and a carpet due to arrive and be fitted in our living room on Friday, there is no option but to come home from work, have a cup of tea, and start working on getting everything which needs to be finished done before the carpet is fitted.

Ann was off work today with a cold/flu type bug, and so went to bed early. During the day she’d managed to rub down the radiator which I’d painted on Sunday, ready for its second coat, and also paint one of the skirting-boards, the windowsill, and the curtain-rail board thingy.
However, because she’s ill she went to bed early tonight so that she’ll hopefully be well enough to go to work tomorrow.

That left me a reasonable amount of work to do, and no entertainment. So in went the iPod, out came the paintbrush, and off I went. It took me the best part of an hour to put a decent coat of paint on the radiator. It’s a double thickness radiator, and so quite a fiddly little thing.

Once the radiator was finished I started on the skirting-boards. As a first coat, the skirting-boards have taken the paint much better than the radiator did. They’re a pain in the arse though. Dust off the floor-boards gets onto the brush all to easily, and paint on the brush finds its way onto the walls in a similarly easy fashion. Easy enough to sort, but a pain all the same.

Anyway, at 1:30am I’m finally finished for the day. In 5 hours my alarm will go off and I’ll start it all over again.

It’ll be wonderful when it’s all finished though. We’ll finally have a lounge and wont have to inhabit the ‘cave’ and cram all of our furniture into one room. :D

In a couple of weeks, when our sofa has arrived and we’ve got the room how we want it, I’ll take some final pictures and write a little ‘changing rooms’ diary entry.

Goodnight!
